Very cool stuff Hammer. I read your stuff on the "Maturation of hip-hop" and I must disagree with you. You bring up some valid points that the industry does provide a way to get out and that the reality that rappers portray is the only reality they know. The problem is that it scares the crapp out of white folk and just reinforces stereotypes that many people tried to berak down for such a long time. I do not see most rappers as a credit to their culture because of their negative message. And you may say that they will give something back to the community, but which community? I don't think there are quite enough rappers to give back to the entire community. And second of all, they give back to brooklyn or the bronx or to where ever...but this is a one shot deal usually as far as the press is concerned. Rapper X will help out someone somewhere, the press will come and say "look! he's doing good." and then leave. Meanwhile his really negative album about hustling money will sell 3,000,000 copies and be listened to for god knows how long. Which message are the kids gonna get. The one about giving back to the hood (Played once) or the one about hustling and robbing (played an infinite number of times). You can't have your cake and eat it too. Doesn't work that way. I mean don't get me wrong...I love rap, but like everything it has huge contridications in it.

Hammer,
It's good to see you're a family man. I don't have a dad, but I remember goin camping with my friend's dad when I was that age. As we left his house, U Can't Touch This was playing. And it didn't stop. Over and over again. The funny part is, I don't remember the trip. I just remember coming back the next morning, and it was still playing on that station. Keep being happy! P.S. I loved your insurance commercial.
