The comments Lou makes about race seem to make little sense or have little backing. If they had much standing then the speech given by Obama would have caused much less of a stir and probably would have been a non-issue for the public.

Despite his comments that we have no trouble talking about race in this country I would beg to differ. We may have no trouble making jokes about it in popular culture or discussing the matter with like-minded individuals, but real discussion is a rare and much more taboo matter. If I walked up to a black man on the street and asked him what he thought about race I am certain he would tell me, but I'm also certain that he, like any man, would be uncomfortable and somewhat unwilling to fully discuss the matter. Can you blame anyone for avoiding the subject despite the need for discussion? Such things are not considered polite conversation after all, a thought process brought on mostly because of the fear of actual debate or altercation that might be caused by it.

The real question that should be posed in the public forum is not about how easy or difficult it is to talk about race, but rather when will the need for discussion pass? How long before race stops being a point of intrigue and starts being an accepted part of the every day? By the end of my lifetime there won't be anyone left that can remember the struggle in the sixties and the race riots. They will read about it in their history books but the effect will not be the same as experiencing it first hand. Will people by then be as calloused as people are now?

I noticed he could barely keep himself from saying "cotton pickin" because racism is so engrained in our language, and culture that no matter who you are, you've got it in you...

How Ironic !!

The simple truth is that everybody needs to shut to the fuck up, and respect the right of speech so the next time somebody saids something racist what do you do?

Don't just be grown up, act it.

Hammer, I assume the "Say it Ain't so" is in jest (though sarcasm is hard to detect in print sometimes). Dobbs isn't a very good closet racist. His whole show is about how much he doesn't like anyone different. Though I think he's more anti-Muslim and folks from south of the border.
